Large Size of BKF Can Corrupt it

NTBackup.exe has the power to offer suitability to backup. Backup, which is considered as the wonderful trick to overcome data loss, needs restoration. But think of the scene, when you know that you have a full backup implemented in BKF and at the time, you go for its restoration, system declares the file as corrupt. Even the though is weird, right?

The file could not get opened because this has undergone corruption. But, what is the reason behind? Is this the virus attack or unexpected shutdown? Actually, the large size of the file can be the problem. If the BKF size has grown too big, then the chances of corruption get attached to the file. A corrupted BKF needs BKF Repair as the cure.

What's the BKF size limit?

This is dependent upon the file system in use. It is 4 GB for FAT and is about volume size for NTFS file system. So always make backup, seeking this size limit or else you would need MS Backup recovery at later stage.

Checking the backup status after each backup is a good practice. This is recommended to check Application Event Log and have an eye for completion.

The key to Plug , Play PC Repair

Your workstations are the key to your employee's productivity. Deciding on a virtualization strategy for your desktops and laptops can be the paramount in ensuring you don't end up with undue downtime wasting money and resources trying to get your staff working again. Plan ahead and minimise your PC repair budget.

Imagine walking into work one day and finding that your 200 desktops had downloaded a Windows Update overnight that was preventing them from booting. This may not be the end of the world, as you can restore a previous version of the desktops, but think about the time and effort you would need to visit each and every one of those machines to fix them. This is where the Desktop Virtualization comes in.

So what does Desktop Virtualization consist of? The concept is simple. It's a software layer that sits below the operating system and abstracts the desktop away from the actual machine that is using it. This gives you a number of advantages including the ability to let staff move their desktop effortlessly from one machine to another. However it also gives you a head start in the PC repair camp as it allows you to repair and maintain desktops and laptops over the network, within seconds of tracing an issue.

There are a number of PC Disaster Recovery solutions on the market, but if you're looking for one to base your strategy around, always keep in mind the effort it takes to deploy, manage and maintain the system. A solution sporting a Plug and Play feature will also rank more highly in my books, because it offers you the flexibility to deploy quickly when and how you need it. Keep in mind that when disaster strikes, you need to be in a position to resolve any issues quickly and effectively because the cost of downtime can be enormous when all your organization's desktops are affected.

The final point that needs mentioning is that deciding on a Plug and Play PC Repair solution is only part of the solution. You need to follow this through and roll it out through the organization. Training PC support staff is essential and ensuring your images are up to date is critical. You should also simulate system failure at regular intervals in the same way that fire drills are staged every so often. Critical staff need to be aware of what actions they need to take in the event of failure and it's important to ensure that images are tested regularly to ensure they still hold all the operating system and applications software necessary for the image to work for users.

Hopefully the information in this article will help you in examining what products are available on the market, help you evaluate your needs and ensure you come up with a successful strategy to deal with PC repair.

Download Free PSP Themes

You would probably like to download a free PSP theme. Virtually all PSP users do. The PSP has become an incredibly well known, and well loved, machine, and part of that is the flexibility it affords its users. Ipod socks are totally superfluous when you have the freedom to choose the exact way your PSP looks and behaves!
Download A Free PSP Theme Tip 1-Don't use the main Sony site! A lot of people never bother to look beyond the main Sony Playstation website when they are looking for themes for their PSP. It is virtually impossible to find a unique PSP Theme if you are downloading it from the same place as everybody else. Although there is no shortage of themes to choose from on the main site, there are a lot of people choosing them. Look somewhere else!

Download A Free PSP Theme Tip 2- Do an internet search A lot of people will use the main search engines to find out how to download a free PSP theme, but use a bit of clever thinking, and you can get what you want. Instead of doing a direct search engine search for themes, look for PSP communities on the internet? Try to see if you can find some forums or newsgroups. This can be a really useful source of resources, sometimes from members of the forum, and sometimes just from threads. You can find custom-made PSP Themes on these dedicated forums.

Download A Free PSP Theme Tip 3- Don't use a download! You can try using one of the simple art programs on your computer to design your own original Theme. Virtually any of the simple art programs will allow you to produce a simple wallpaper, and this should be compatible with your PSP as long as you create it as a JPEG file. Another possibility is to get someone who is good with art to actually design a theme for you. You can find a PSP forum which has some decent Themes, and ask whoever designed the themes you like the best if they will create one for you. Often they will be happy to do it, although they may charge you a little for doing the job.

You can do a lot more with downloading free PSP Themes than just following everybody else with EA games wallpapers etc from the official Sony site. Be original, and you will enjoy your PSP more!

Why Devices Require Drivers

A computer system is composed of 2 major components. These are its hardware and software components. These 2 components work in tandem to render the machine usable. Despite being under the same platform, communication protocols are necessary to allow smooth communication between each hardware and software component as well as for the user to utilize its functionality. This is the sole purpose of drivers.
Hardware devices (the physical functional components of computer systems) require a set of codes to enable its functions. Installed applications (software) also need to have the necessary hardware device data before it can use its features. These 2 components are practically incompatible with each other.

Drivers are translation programs coded in high-level programming languages. Its main function is to act as a communication medium between a software component and a hardware device connected to the machine. This will make its features usable for the machine and the user.

Device drivers are coded specifically by the manufacturer of the hardware device. Considering that each device is unique according to the features embedded by its developer, specially coded drivers are necessary to ensure that these features are enabled in any platform used with the machine.

In most cases, Microsoft Windows operating systems compile basic device drivers to allow the user to utilize basic input/output devices in order to complete the installation process. This includes the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. However, these default drivers need to be updated with the correct versions before it can be fully used in the machine.

Characteristics of Device Drivers

1. Drivers are OS-specific

A device driver does not have a universal function. It is specially coded for a specific version of an operating system and might not function properly if used with others. A perfect example of this is the Microsoft Windows operating system.

The device drivers for Windows 9x series are not compatible with higher versions like XP and Vista. Using a driver scanner we can create a list of all drivers on own computer. There are also reports of Vista users having software/hardware problems when they convert their platforms to Windows XP. This can also be said with other operating systems like Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD, UNIX, and so on.

2. Drivers are device-specific

Device drivers are also coded according to the hardware used. Special high-level codes are necessary for the function of a device in an operating system. For example, printer drivers contain the PRINTLN parameter unused by other devices, digital cameras and scanners.

What you need to know in order to have a silent computer

For the performance computer enthusiast, having a powerful machine usually means having equally powerful cooling to offset the amount of heat high-end hardware puts out. This means having a good case with a few fans for airflow, a good CPU heatsink assembly, and sometimes a third-party GPU cooler if you're overclocking. The downside to all this? Noise. For some people noise isn't a factor, mainly because they've lived with it for so long that they're used to it. But there are those who decide to make the transition from a noisy high-performance machine to one that is whisper-silent. This guide will serve to give you insight into the quiet-computing aspect of the PC industry.
In order to understand the noise your case makes, we have to understand the tradeoff between noise and cooling efficiency. Typically, the more efficient your cooling, the louder your system will be. Noise is measured in decibels;

* 10 decibels: Normal breathing
* 20 decibels: A mosquito or rustling leaves
* 30 decibels: A whisper
* 40 decibels: A bubbling brook or refrigerator
* 50 decibels: Normal conversation
* 60 decibels: Laughter
* 70 decibels: A vacuum cleaner or hair dryer
* 80 decibels: City traffic or a garbage disposal
* 90 decibels: A motorcycle or lawnmower

The amount of airflow a fan moves is measured in CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute).

Obviously, higher decibel and higher CFM go hand in hand, but is it possible to find fans that have a low decibel rating, but high CFM output? The answer is yes, read on.

The first step in quiet-computing is the fans. They generate the noise, so it makes sense the correct the problem at the source. The most popular name in the PC community when it comes to high CFM output with low decibel ratings is Noctua, closely followed by Scythe. Scythe and Noctua are practically tied in terms of performance, but tests show that Noctua barely edges Scythe out, yet Scythe fans are of better build quality. Given the extremely insignificant difference, I'd recommend Scythe, but if you want that 1% difference, go with Noctua.

The next step in quiet computing is the foundation, and by foundation, I mean the computer case. Some cases are cheaply built, making the panels vibrate against eachother. Buying a solid case with a solid reputation for holding its ground against the vibrating forces inside, and also keeping the sound inside, is key to a silent computer. Antec is a popular name in quiet computing. This is where the path splits for performance users - what type of case will suit your silent needs? Rather than explain it, I'll just show it. On principal, you're either looking for this, this, or this type of case. Basically all out performance with a minor emphasis on silence, or a balance between performance and silence, or just silence but with reasonable airflow performance. Check here for a varied selection, research, find the case for you. Forums also help alot, too. I can't really give a personal recommendation because people have different tastes and needs, but my personal opinion is that the aforementioned cases are the top of each of their respective class. I can also say that Antec is widely known to be the name in computer case quality. All in all, opinions will vary.

Next is the CPU cooler. These can make the most noise in a computer case by far. Buying a CPU cooler that allows you to change the fan out with something quieter goes a long way. The downside with high-performance CPU coolers is the size - the better they are, the bigger they are. The size can sometimes be obscene, rest assured, you can find the size specifications on the manufacturer's website, and also check out YouTube for videos of people demoing their CPU coolers, as well as other hardware. If you want the best, as of this writing, it's the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, aka: TRUE. It's not a question of being the best in terms of cooling, even though it is, it's also the best in terms of being able to use whatever fan you want, and that's what matters here. If you want something a bit more conventional but still reasonably quiet, ZALMAN 9500A, or the ZALMAN CNPS9700 will suffice. Zalman is a popular name in the industry for balancing performance with silence.

GPU coolers typically aren't needed unless if you're overclocking or are very serious about silence. Zalman is very popular when it comes to quiet and good performing GPU cooling, starting there is your best bet.

The final device for a quiet system is the power supply. They have fans, so that's another problem to solve. The power supply you need depends on how much power your system requires, the amount and the type of cables for your devices, etc... basically beyond the scope of this guide. Research comes into play here.

Website File Management Made Easy

A way to streamline website file management has been the elusive goal for many site builders. Keeping track of those extraneous files that accompany websites have been the bane of many webmasters.
When you upload your website, you need to make sure that along with it you upload every image file you want to use, every Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) that determines font styles, every video or audio clip you want to include, and lots of other files as well.

If you don't have a well organized filing system, it is easy to misplace or lose files amonst the clutter. And even with a good system, you may leave old files on your site that are no longer used and are just taking up space.

File Clean Up

The makers of XSitePro 2.0 understand the problems associated with building and maintaining a website, so they have built tools into their software to manage a lot of those problems with a minimal amount of effort.

The program's suite of Website Cleanup tools are able to tell you if there are any files that are no longer needed, redundant, or out-dated. And, because this powerful package can handle the publishing of your website to the server, it ensures that everything is uploaded in an organized fashion.

Mapping Your Site

Along with creating all of the files and content for your website, you also have to remember what everything is for and where it is. When a site comprises just a few pages, that may be simple, but as your site grows in content and size, it becomes more complex.

Enter the automatically created Full Sitemap function. It helps you keep track of each facet of your site, and is an excellent way to help your website's visitors find precisely what they are seeking. And, as an added bonus, sitemaps help ensure that your entire website gets indexed by search engines.

The Time is Now! Or, Whenever You Want it to be

Now this is a program that has been designed to make hard things easy.

When you first build your website using the new version 2, you'll find that it helps you along and makes it easy to produce a great looking website. Once you've completed making it, it will be easy to see why it is imperative to keep everything up to date.

With the Taskbar Scheduler, you can set up everything in advance and simply tell the program when you want to make changes, and XSitepro will take care of the rest for you.

This user friendly website builder is easy to buy, easy to download, and easy to learn. Its developers have made it easy for you to create and publish a website, and smoothed the way for you to maintain it and keep it updated.

The Abridged How to Build a PC Guide

There are so many guides about how to build PC's out there that it can be hard to choose the right one. Finding a concise guide that can explain things so they make sense can be even harder.
I have been working with computers for the past 20 years and have been writing guides for the past eight. I wanted to share what I have learned with others in a very clear, and easy to follow guide that you can read in one sitting.

With that concept in mind let's jump right into what you need to know to build your first PC.

01. First, you need to determine what parts you need. The best way to determine the components is to decide what the main use of your PC will be. (Gaming, Multimedia, Office, Business, etc.)

Once you know what it will be used for read some reviews on the best parts for each type of system. Or you can save yourself time by working with a reliable company to set you up with the hardware you need.

02. The computer parts you'll need to build a PC:

Motherboard CPU Memory Power Supply Hard Drive PC Case CD or DVD Rom/RW Video Card (Optional but recommended) Operating System

(Use the list above as a checklist for buying your components.)

03. Once you have read reviews and purchased your parts, you need to start by prepping your motherboard combo. I recommend doing a POST test to make sure your motherboard, CPU, memory, and power supply are all working before installing them into your case.

To do a POST test do a Google search for "How to POST test a motherboard". A good guide should walk you through how to assemble the hardware for the POST test.

04. Once you have POST tested your combo, you can install the parts into your PC case.

Install your Power Supply into your case first. The screw holes on the back should line up with the four screw holes in your case. One is usually offset to ensure proper alignment. Look for the offset screw hole when installing the power supply.

05. Your case comes with brass mounts that screw into the inside of your case. Look at the motherboard, and count the number of silver holes in the board and make a note of their orientation. The brass screws should mirror this placement inside the case for when you mount the motherboard combo.

*** Make sure you remove the IO back-plate that comes with your case and install the back-plate provided with your motherboard. ***

06. Now that the power supply and motherboard combo are installed, look for 2 sets of wires coming off of your power supply. One is a block of 4 wires and the other is a block of 20/24 wires.

These are the main power leads. There are spots to connect these near your CPU and memory. They are "keyed" connections so they will only fit the proper way. (This keeps people from connecting them incorrectly.) Make sure to push the wires in until you feel a click.

07. Now you need to install your hard drive and CD/DVD ROM drives. Make sure to remove any plastic bezels on the front of the case for your ROM drives. Use the screws that came with your case to mount the CD/DVD ROM and hard drive. Make sure the ends of the drives with the cable connections (the pins) are facing the inside of the case.

08. Once the drives are mounted use the IDE (grey ribbon) or SATA (red usually, maybe orange or black) to connect the drives. (Check your hardware documentation or invoice to determine what types of drives you have if you are unsure.) If you are unsure of what these wires look like, check your motherboard manual for documentation.

Connect one end of the wire to the drives and the other end of the wire to the motherboard. These connections are usually located below the memory slots on the motherboard. (The lower right corner of the motherboard.)

Check your motherboard manual for where to connect them if you are unsure.

09. Now connect power leads from the power supply to the drives. SATA power leads look like an "L" shape. IDE leads are 4 wires/pins on a white connection. Once you locate the leads plug them into the drives. These leads are also keyed so they can only be plugged in the correct way.

10. You are almost done. Now check your motherboard manual for how to wire the front panel wiring from your case. These are the four colored wires coming from the front panel.

The proper orientation is usually the colored wire towards the rear of the case. (Of the colored/white or colored/black wires.) Your manual will provide you with the proper orientation for the wires.

Congratulations you have now built your first PC. Recheck your motherboard manual to make sure you have the USB, Firewire and Audio cables hooked up too. (These are usually located off the front panel also.)

Now you can install your operating system. When you boot the system hit the "delete" key to enter the BIOS. Look for an area that says "boot order", and make sure to set the CD/DVD ROM ahead of the hard drive. This will allow you to boot right into the operating system setup.

Once this is done insert your OS disk into your ROM drive and follow the on screen instructions to finish installing your new computer.

See, it's a lot easier than you thought. Most modern day hardware has become very user friendly and is practically plug and play allowing anyone to build own computer. When in doubt refer to manuals and documentation that come with the hardware.

You are now ready to get started. Don't just sit there. Get your hardware and start building your new PC today!

My Hydross Wipe

The day my warlock wiped the raid on hydross
First off, when you see the title, you think to yourself, "My Hydross wipe?, how could one person wipe a whole raid?" Well, let me tell you a little back story. First off, i was playing on my alliance warlock, with tier 5ish equivalent gear. Well, you can see for yourself.

Here is a link to My Armory.

Anyhoo, i was cookie cutter raiding warlock spec at the time, (which anyone who is remotely familiar with Warlocks know which spec I'm talking about) 0/21/40 Sac / shadow-destruction, so basically my damage is really high, but my aggro sucks balls.

Alrighty now that you know that, ill do a play by play of My Hydross Wipe.

* Tank Pulls

* I wait

* I wait some more, while other people are dpsing already

* I start off with an immolate

* Here comes the first shadow bolt

* CRIT

* 2nd Shadow Bolt

* big crit

* 3rd Shadow Bolt

* BIG CRIT

* 4th Shadow bolt

* BIG CRIT...pulls boss, everyone dies

Here is the video i just so happened to have taken.

Now, watching this video, you may think that i was ashamed, but for some reason i am really proud of myself that i wiped the entire raid with 4 shadow bolts. Well folks,(lol, know ones knows of this blog yet) that was my hydross wipe.

Spore Creature Creator

Spore Creature Creator
Well, i know this isn't anything to do with World of Warcraft, but it is something that I'm interested in; It's the Spore Creature Creator. The Spore Creature Creator is sort of like the little mini game that is suppose to get people pumped up to buy Spore when it comes out, which it does quite well.

The first thing you do after installing and booting up the game is register with Spore.com and Sporepedia. (which is awesome, more on that later) After you register you are let loose onto the creature creator with nothing but your imagination to guide you, which is pretty much enough, because the Spore Creature Creator's controls are so easy to learn and pick up. The fist thing you see on your screen is a big mass of what looks like colored clay to your right and a big long list of what looks like parts to your left. When you click the blob it turns out not to be a blog at all, but the body of your soon to be creature, which you can elongate, fatten, or basically do anything you want to do with it.

Now off i go just grabbing parts and sticking them on, and off, on and off, and on and off again until i got a creature that look decent enough, but it's still the same plain color of green, so I'm wondering how I'm going to color it. Well, that question lasted all the three seconds it took me to look up at the big paint brush. I click the paint brush and paint my Creature, which was super easy, but could be more complicated if you ask me. All in all, i encourage anyone to pick up Spore Creature Creator and try it out for themselves, the combinations are endless.

Ninja Pandas With Bamboo Guns

Ninja Pandas With Bamboo Guns
So i was thinking to myself today, "Ninja Pandas With Bamboo Guns" would be really awesome. I mean think about it, these big quit unassuming creatures, just hanging around eating leaves and then suddenly they turn into "Ninja Pandas With Bamboo Guns" that just slaughter everything around before you know what's happening. Just imagine the sounds of those Bamboo Guns, like the slight sound of a paint ball gun right before your horribly agonizing demise at the hands of the Pandas.

I think they would be like the ninja turtles, except you know, they are pandas, they would kill mercilessly, and have a smile on there face while doing it. I mean if i had to die, that's probably how i would want to go out, with a ninja panda shuriken in my heart or something.

Well, anways that's my randomness for the day, just remember, whenever you think you're safe, you're not, because the Ninja Pandas with Bamboo Guns are watching.....and waiting.

In Technology, Size Does Matter

What do the newest mobile phones and cameras all have in common? It's something very small which is making a big difference to amateur and professional photographers, film makers, and music fans everywhere - it is the microSD memory card.
The small phone, camera and mp3 player memory cards which we are offering at microSD-cards.com weigh almost nothing and are no bigger than the size of your fingernail. But don't let that fool you.

They can provide up to 8gb of storage space and at a reasonable price, even at the top end of the market. Amateurs will find their needs taken care of as well, with sizes of under 1gb also available if you aren't planning on using as much space as a professional photographer.

The microSD card is a big thing in a small space. The card is revolutionising the world of media storage and is now the standard memory technology in new phones such as the Samsung E900, and new cameras like the Canon EOS 1000D due for release in July. The cards are built for fast access and are designed to store media files including professional photography, video and music.

Cards bought from us at microSD-cards.com are seen in modern mobile phones, but they have also broken in to the video game console market, and are now often seen integrated in to mp3 players, and even global positioning systems.

Our cards are the industry leaders - their tiny size combined with support for a host of different media types ensure this, and research suggests microSD cards are going to become increasingly more popular and present in most new technology over the next few years.

By 2011, over 85% of mobile handsets shipped will be using the microSD system, according to iSuppli Corporation, leading electronic consultants. The cards, as well as providing a huge capacity and breathtakingly fast access speeds, can also provide copyright protection for your work. The Content Protection for Recordable Media (CPRM) system, developed by leading electronics companies such as Intel and IBM has proved hugely successful in DVD copy prevention. The card can only be read and written to in its protection area when connected to the right device, giving you, the artist, the security you deserve.

The question is, can you afford to take the risk of running out of memory on that important photo shoot, or when you want to record that special moment in your life that may just be around the corner. Avoid messages like 'internal memory full' or 'cannot save' by investing in a microSD chip used by the professionals, at extremely competitive prices from microSD-cards.com.

Whether you are a photographer looking to go professional, or an amateur who is finding you never have enough space on your mobile phone or digital SLR camera, you can be sure that the microSD card will provide you with the raw space, data access speed, and security that you need to ensure that your artistic side can flourish without worrying about your capacity to save.

The Amazing Quad Core Computer

Let us discuss the two main quad core computers launched by Intel and AMD. Intel was the first one to launch this computer under the name of Kentsfield, which is also called Core 2 Extreme quad-core QX6700, and it is no less than 80% faster than Conroe or Core 2 Extreme X6800.
The chips of these quad core computers are based on the latest `Core` micro architecture technology. It is not just low powered but also gives high performance. But don`t be fooled into thinking that Kentsfield is a power-saving computer by any means.

This computer with a 2.66GHz chip having a 1066MHz front-side bus (FSB) is ideally suited for those users that require heavy or highly accurate scientific calculations. It is generally used in the fields of actuarial sciences, digital content creation, financial applications and engineering analysis, like CAD. The director of Intel`s operations for digital enterprise group, Mr. Steve Smith, has claimed that this quad core computer will be 58% faster for crating digital content system, and for video, digital audio and photo editing.

To talk in simple words, Kentsfield and other such computers are not meant for ordinary people`s desk. They are more suited for high-tech workstations and desktops. It will not be wise to think that the average customer who needs a computer for general applications like word, PowerPoint, games or internet and etc., will go for a complex, complicated and expensive computer like this. For these purposes, there are many other types of products made by Intel. Apart from this, as you must have guessed by now that this high-tech computer needs a lot of power and this feature makes it practically useless for people on the go. Perhaps it will take some more research and modifications before the quad core computer becomes popular as a laptop.

Intel has launched the mainstream and commercial version of these computers. This computer is known as Core 2 Quad Q6600. It runs at 2.4GHz and it is currently priced at around $210. This budget quad-core computer is estimated to have a somewhat smaller thermal envelope, and will be at 105 watts as compared to 130 watts of the Kentsfield Core 2 Extreme quad-core QX6700.

AMD`s Quad Core computer is built on a 65mn process. They are using a new technology called Silicon-on-Insulator process. It allows faster transistors that have lower power leakage to be easily used and this unique feature helps greatly in reducing wasted heat and power. For more energy saving, each core of this computer is allowed to run at entirely different speeds or can be turned off totally with the help of the new `Enhanced Power Now` feature. This computer is also packed with an enhanced `Crossbar Switch` that enables the users to access different parts of cores at the same time. Some other vital features include the integrated memory controller along with the latest `Direct Connect Architecture 2.0` that allows much faster `Hyper Transport` speeds.

Though these features can extract exclamations of wonder and happiness from any geek but the fact remains that for the average PC buyer, this still means Latin and Greek. Definitely many more core computers using this technology are on their way and will revolutionize the computer industry but it will be some time before people embrace this technology as a part and parcel of their life. Computer makers claim that within a few years the popularity of quad core computers will triple itself.

Affordable iPod Repair Service Is A Must Have Solution

Apple Computer, Inc has introduced its avant-garde digital media player iPod that has been accepted as a category killer device. People of all age groups love this device and it is considered to be the best device to have in order to listen to music. What ails the effective use of this gadget is the lack of Affordable iPod Repair Service.
This well-known gadget is available in the market in four variants -the iPod mini, the tiny Shuffle, IPod Classic and the iPod U2. The models are really lightweight and can be easily pocketed. Except the small sized Shuffle, all other incarnations of the iPod possess a LCD display. However, the mass hysteria that the device created after its release was matched by voices of dissents about the dearth of quality Affordable iPod Repair Service.

What's unique about the iPod is that it redefines the concept of user friendliness and pristine audio quality. The first generation of iPod was meant only for listening to music but in the subsequent versions the capability of video playback and still picture viewing facility was added to meet the demand of the Apple loyalists.

Dropping the device accidentally causes the majority of the cases leading to a damaged iPod. In fact, the hard drive based variants of iPod are more susceptible to acquiring damage caused due to drop than the flash memory based ones. People who are avid iPod users can scratch the display screen by mistake. This mars the look and appeal of the device to an extent. Some of the careless users often cause damage to the device by dropping it into water. This is more harmful than anything else and can render the player useless. All these factors have necessitated the need of Affordable iPod Repair Service.

One of the major problems that plague the iPod users is the smudges and scratches on the screen .The Apple aficionados were quick to point out that the company has not built the device robustly. Problems like scratched and broken screen haunted many users of iPod and the company felt the heat and this led to the development of Affordable iPod Repair Service in the market.

The same type of screen problems also followed the launch of the hugely successful iPod Nano. The AppleCare Protection Plan and iPod's Limited Warranty neither cover unfortunately repairing the screen of iPod and thus damaging the screen remained to be a constant problem for the users. The terms and conditions of the company clearly mention that it is not compelled to repair iPods with damaged displays as they consider it as a type of accidental damage. As it has turned out for the users, the biggest advantage of iPod, which is its small size, is also its biggest limitation.

If a person sees that his iPod has received damage due to any of the aforesaid reasons, he can try repairing the player by purchasing Affordable iPod Repair Service kits from the market. However often it is difficult to do that and in that case he can get the repair work done by some certified and professional iPod technician.

Wi-Fi and Mobile Competition Highlight the Importance of Local Search and Mobile Search

The ways in which consumers access products and services are changing as consumer behaviour shapes and is shaped by the Internet. Increasingly tech-savvy consumers are turning to the Internet first to find the products and services they are looking for through local search before venturing out to shop. Now mobile search - web surfing on the fly through mobile phones and handhelds - is emerging as a preferred means of finding local goods and services online.
The U.K. is witnessing an emerging struggle between mobile service providers and telecoms over how Britons on the move will access the Internet. Wi-fi networks which allow laptops to access the worldwide web via radio signals that are picked up in wi-fi "hotspots" and rebroadcast over the airwaves are competing with both mobile phone technology and relatively new laptop plug-ins called "dongles" that allow users to connect their laptop directly to the Internet via their mobile phone service.

There were approximately 12,000 wi-fi hotspots in the United Kingdom in 2007, but that number has already more than doubled to approximately 26,800 according to estimates from Jiwire.com, an online directory of wi-fi hotspots in the U.K. Meanwhile, the number of consumers who use laptops versus desktops is also rising. Jupiter Research, a leading online and Internet research company, estimates that roughly 40% of people who use the Internet now own laptops. Increasingly, free wi-fi "hotspots" that do not charge a fee to laptop users who connect to the web via their services are being used by both local councils and private businesses to attract visitors and customers.

Yet, mobile phone technology has almost 100% penetration in Great Britain's markets, and next generation handheld and mobile products like the newly released Apple 3G iPhone hold out the promise of better and easier mobile search from increasingly sophisticated mobile devices with better keypads, screens and now touchscreens. In addition to the large number of consumers directly accessing the Internet via their mobile device, computer users are now also accessing the worldwide web via mobile networks.

Studies from market research and consultancy, You Gov, indicate that already 10% of computer users (presumably from among the 40% of internet users who own laptops) regularly access the Internet using a mobile phone connection, despite "dongle" plug-ins that fit into a laptop's USB port only being readily available for the last year. The clear advantage of mobile versus wi-fi as a portal to the Internet is that all that is needed for quick and relatively cheap online access is a near-universally available mobile network and not proximity to a wi-fi hotspot, which may or may not be free of charge, no matter how ubiquitous they are becoming.

It comes as no surprise that the consumers who are tapping into the potential for local search and mobile search tend to be younger and more affluent than other demographics and are thus. Moreover, You Gov research indicates that mobile broadband usage is most popular amongst students and other highly mobile individuals who do not spend a lot of time at home where a fixed Internet connection is most often available. These are the consumers who spend their time in the community and are more apt to frequent the local businesses and establishments that are targeting this techno-savvy, techno-proficient demographic.

The increasing ability and tendency of consumers - particularly young and affluent consumers - to access products and services in their local neighbourhood or community, either directly via their mobile phone network or through the array of proliferating wi-fi networks, highlights the challenges and opportunities that small businesses, entrepreneurs and growing businesses face in keeping step with evolving technologies and consumer tastes. These increasing challenges and opportunities highlight the need for local businesses and small businesses to ensure that they have an Internet presence which will allow them to effectively tap into the markets created by evolving local search and mobile search capabilities.

Five Ways to Take Care of Your Laptop

Laptops can be quite expensive--and you'll want to make sure yours lasts as long as possible. Here are a few tips to keep your laptop in great shape for years to come.
Keep food and beverages away from your laptop. If you spill a drink on your keyboard, your laptop's a goner--most laptops have the CPU built in underneath the keys. Keep food away as well--crumbs can fall between the keys and cause damage to the fragile hardware beneath.

Protect the power cord. Plug in your power cord away from high traffic areas. Always pull the power cord out of your computer by the plug, not by the cord itself--this can cause the plug to detach from the cord.

When carrying your laptop, use a laptop case. Never carry your laptop in a backpack, large purse, or other bag without a case designed specifically to protect laptops.

Make sure labels on CD's and DVD's are not peeling off. If a label is coming off a CD or DVD, it could jam your disc drive when you insert it.

Protect your laptop from temperature extremes. Your laptop should not be kept in extremely hot or extremely cold environments, and it should not be exposed to quick, extreme changes in temperature while it's on.

No laptop lasts forever. But you can extend the life of yours by taking steps to make sure it's properly protected and cared for. If you follow these steps, your laptop should have a long, productive and trouble-free life.

Do's and Don'ts of Creating Safe Passwords

If a crook gets hold of your password, he can get access to your entire life. Although no password is completely safe, there are ways to create passwords that will be difficult to crack. Here are a few steps to take if you want to create a safer, more secure password.
Don't use discrete words. Crooks who try to break passwords will sometimes use programs that cycle through every word in the English language. Avoid whole words that can be found in a dictionary.

Don't use personal information. Avoid using anything personal about you that others would know in your password.

Do use both upper and lower case letters. Some password applications are case sensitive, so it's helpful to have a password that incorporates upper and lower case letters.

Don't write your passwords down. You never know who will see the list of passwords you keep in your desk.

Do change your passwords regularly. Once you have the perfect password, you'll have to change it. It's smart to change your password every six months.

Don't use the same password for everything. It's crucial to make sure you have as many passwords as you have sites that ask you to sign in.

A secure password consists of seven or more letters and symbols, at least one numeral, and include both upper and lowercase letters. Avoid obvious words and number combinations, and keep your password secret and out of sight. If you do, your password will be better able to protect your information.

Tips on Buying Desktop Computer

Whether your old computer is shot or you have never bought a computer on your own before, you may be feeling a little bit nervous about the whole thing.
Buying a computer represents putting down a fair chunk of your hard earned money, and you may be nervous about getting a computer that isn't a great fit for your needs.

The truth is, getting a good desktop computer that suits you is easier than you think, and by simply keeping the following tips in mind, you'll be able to find the perfect computer that will keep you happy for years to come.

Know what you want your computer for Think about how you use your computer. Are you someone who only uses a computer for its word processing ability, or do you prefer to stay up to date on the latest games.
Maybe you are someone whose entertainment is largely focused around your computer; all of your communication and your movies are kept on your computer. By keeping a clear idea of what you need your computer for, you will be able to get the right machine.

Know what RAM is RAM stands for Random Access Memory, and you will find that what it does is affect the speed with which your computer "thinks," that is, processes action. If you are only using your computer for things like surfing online or writing, you'll find that a RAM of 512 MB is okay, though 1GB is ideal.
You'll find that this size will give you room to expand or grow if you want to later on, but that it's not so big that you are wasting your money. If you are going to be gaming, or doing advanced computer programming with your unit,, you will of course want more.

Don't worry so much about hard drive space Your hard drive space generally refers to the amount of information that you can keep on your computer, ranging from written work to audio and visual media.
You'll find that if you download a lot of videos that this can be eaten up fast, but in desktops, you'll find that it is very easy to add some more. Remember that while you do have a finite amount of space that it is all in how you use it.

Online or from the store? You'll find that ordering online is actually a lot cheaper, but keep in mind that you should have a clue about what you are looking it. If you choose to build a computer yourself, you'll find that it is much easier to get the parts online.
At a store, though, you will find that you can often take the time to look over the specs, speak with a sales representative and take a look around to see what else is available. It really depends on what you are comfortable with.

If you are looking to buy a desktop computer, remember that you really need to think about what you want it for. Once you have the function decided upon, it is very easy to figure out what machine will be perfect for you.

Free Software For Struggling Web Designers

Here are a few nifty programs for the thrifty web designer. They answer the question: What do you do if you can't afford $300+ for the popular tools but you don't want to use war3z?
(Note: Because some web publishers don't like having links to web sites in their articles, I've omitted them here. The following softwares can be found easily by typing their unique names in a search engine.)

1. NVU Web Editor.

Alternative to: Dreamweaver, Frontpage.

This is a pretty good web page editor, and is easy to use. Quite full-featured. Turns out good-looking web pages which display properly in FireFox and Internet Explorer. It has Source Code, WYSIWYG and Preview tabs which make editing a snap.

My only minor gripe is it doesn't support the display of Server Side Includes on-screen, because I use these [grin]. That would be asking for too much, I fear, as no other editor besides Dreamweaver supports this, as far as I know.

For people who want Word-For-Windows-For-The-Web, this is a nice alternative to FrontPage.

2. GIMP Image Editor.

Alternative to: Adobe Photoshop, PaintShop Pro.

This is a good image and photo manipulation package. I used it recently to make up a set of passport photographs. It did a fine job, but you need to examine all the nested menus; I found I was saving in a compressed format, when I didn't want to do that.

If you're used to Photoshop, the learning curve is slight. Like with any other software, you just need a bit of patience to discover where your favourite tools are. Give it a chance before your ADD kicks in(!)

3. OpenOffice.

Alternative to: Microsoft Word and Excel.

Now, this suite of programs is some of the best freeware available. People who know nothing beyond Microsoft will find these programs easy to use. Probably there are some minor compatibility issues with the more advanced 'features' of Microsoft softwares. If you are working for a Fortune 500 company, let them cough up the Microsoft licence fees and pay for being finicky.

For thrifty ol' you, OpenOffice is a steal, especially if you just want to open and manipulate a few Word and Excel files. There's also the strange satisfaction in hitting the 'uninstall' button on the Microsoft Office Suite.

4. Opera.

Alternative to: Internet Explorer, Firefox.

Ah, Opera, the also-ran of the browser wars. A handy thing to have installed if you want to quickly visit a site 'in disguise' i.e. display a different User Agent string and cookie profile.

This is a browser you need make no excuses for; it works a treat, and has all the features of its competitors.

5. SimplyMepis.

Alternative to: Microsoft Windows XP and Vista.

This is the only Linux operating system I can get to install on my old Dell Latitude. It is very easy to install and operate. It was a delightful surprise when it found my cable modem, when Windows couldn't. I clicked on the Firefox icon and bingo! internet access.

Burn the ISO image to a CD and you can try out SimplyMepis without installing it. You can use it to diagnose problems with your PC, or get at files if Windows is giving you grief.

See also Damn Small Linux. Burn this to a CD, and you have an emergency operating system if your PC throws a wobbly. It will run quickly from the CD.

The key selling point of these is that they're free, and have been developed independently of Microsoft products, and thus have less code bloat and 'eye candy'.

6. Ashampoo Burning Studio and CDBurnerXP.

Alternatives to: Nero Burning CD Rom.

These programs will help you burn your SimplyMepis ISO image to a CD. This means that when you boot up your PC with this disc in the CD drive, your PC will read it as an installation disk, or you can just browse the contents.

Nero is a fine software, but if you just want to bring the odd CD, try out these free alternatives.

Conclusion: The free softwares above are great if you want to be frugal, or just set up a PC for someone else, get the praise, and not have to ask your pal to fork out cash. Your PC can be free of bootleg or overpriced software. You can be free from labouring with commercial products, that have been bloated with unnecessary features, just to keep paying corporate customers happy!

Bespoke Software Development - Why Your Fear Of It Is Hurting You

With the obvious advantages of having software custom developed for an organization, many small businesses are put off by the idea. They fear the complexity or they feel the cost of this would be way beyond them. In fact these fears are largely unfounded. Nowadays there are many custom software houses that focus on small businesses as their main clients.
Such software houses will typically develop their applications using low-cost software solutions such as Access or Visual Basic. These low-cost custom solutions using readily available tools of course cost far less in maintenance contracts than the big, enterprise level solutions such as Oracle or Sybase.

A small business custom software solution provider will normally be able to advise you of the likely costs up front. He or she will be able to take your specification and create an initial design along with an initial estimate of how long the work will take to perform. Of course, accurate cost estimation is going to be crucial for any small business.

As any business owner knows, when you are developing software in-house, there are great risks in terms of costs but also in the prospect of developing software that might not work according to your business requirements. This risk is a very important reason to hire an outside software house to provide a custom solution for you. Unlike in-house IT departments, software houses have a real incentive to control costs and to provide solutions to you with the functionality agreed and at the cost specified at the time of project initiation.

How to Build an Impressive Social Networking Presence, Beginning with Facebook

Professional and social networking sites like LinkedIn, MySpace, Facebook, and Squidoo are effective outlets for finding new readers, but it is easy to find your message spread thin if you don't choose the right strategy. Many businesses settle for sparse profiles on various sites, never discovering the other powerful marketing tools many of these social networking platforms have to offer—most of them for free.
To avoid the scattershot approach, choose one or two social networking sites that fit your business well and invest the time to maximize your presence in them. Let's explore what that might look like if Facebook is one of your choices.

Prepare your best information before you start.

Avoid the "I will go back and fill that in later" trap. Have all your necessary information on hand, ready to copy and paste on the spot. Complete a worksheet containing:

1. Key Terms: Make a list of your best key terms and weave them into the rest of your worksheet items. Key terms are one, two, or three word terms that someone might use if they were searching for your business in a search engine.

2. General Information: Your Name Business Name Email Addresses URLs Instant Messaging screen names

3. Biographical and Descriptive Information: Short bio (50 words) Longer bio (100 words) Short company description (50 words) Longer company description (100 words) Business mission statement

4. List of Products

I based these worksheet items on a typical Facebook profile and page. If you choose a different social networking site, examine some completed profiles and base your worksheet items on them.

Create an account and thoroughly complete your profile

If you haven't already, get a Facebook account. Completely fill out your profile using your worksheet. Under the relationships tab, choose "networking." You can skip the personal and education tabs for business profiles, but there is no harm in filling them out. If you have an existing account, upgrade your profile information using your key terms.

But don't stop there!

Facebook, like most good social networking platforms, offers many marketing opportunities for businesses—some for free. You can find these by clicking the "Advertising" link in the footer of the Facebook site, or by following this link: http://www.facebook.com/business/.

Since I can't cover all of the marketing tools in one article, let's focus on my favorite: The Facebook Page. It's my favorite not only because it is free, but because it makes use of the many diverse Facebook applications.

Facebook pages are specifically for marketing a business or a product. They offer a way for a business to represent itself to the Facebook community in an authentic way. Facebook users can search pages the same way they search for people within the network community.

Create your page by going to "Page Manager" in the left sidebar of your Facebook profile, or by following this link: http://www.facebook.com/business/ and choosing Facebook Pages. Choose the best category for your business.

Use key terms in the name of your Facebook page!

It seems that the actual page name is the only text on a Facebook page that is used in a search. With that in mind, use at least two of your best key terms in your page name.

Populate your page with all of your best worksheet information. You may have only a few seconds to catch a reader's attention, so put your best key terms forward.

Once your page is in place, add applications to help represent your company in your own unique way. To find applications for your page, click on "Applications" in the upper left corner of your page, or search for them here: http://www.facebook.com/apps/.

Applications are not difficult to install and are usually very easy to set up. Use this general rule of thumb when choosing an application: If you can't figure out how to set it up after the second try, find another one. There is often more than one application available to accomplish the same task.

Applications Top Picks:

My Flickr (http://apps.facebook.com/myflickr/): Display photos from your Flickr account using this application. These photos can include logos, product photos, photos from events, etc.

Upcoming (http://apps.facebook.com/upcoming/): Add all of your events to upcoming.org, and you can easily display them on your Facebook page with Upcoming's Facebook application.

YouTube Box (http://apps.facebook.com/videobox/): Allows visitors to play your YouTube videos right on your Facebook page.

Simply RSS (http://apps.facebook.com/simplyrss/): This allows you to display up to eight RSS feeds on your Facebook page and display the feeds from your business's main site and newsrooms.

Implementing these applications creates an interactive page that also gives visitors a personable look into your business. To see all of these applications in use on one page, visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dalton-Publishing/9792568507.

Note: If you use a particular application regularly, consider donating to the application's creator—they do not get paid to develop these applications.

Promoting your social networking presence

Now that you have invested the time in creating an impressive presence on Facebook (or whichever social networks you chose), go the extra mile and research how you can promote your new presence both inside and outside of the network. Here is a link to Facebook's promotional guidelines: http://www.facebook.com/pages/manage/promo_guidelines.php.

Of course, invite everyone on your mailing lists to join your network and visit your sharp new page!

Don't turn your back on your investment

Remember: The social Web is a fickle place! You need to keep your content dynamic and interesting in order to encourage people to return to your page, or to recommend it to their friends. Do this, and you will see better results than those who just move on to building their next profile. Once you have a good, healthy presence in one community, use your experience to move on to your next successful presence.

Search Engine Optimization for Strategic Marketing

Copyright (c) 2008 Christian Fea
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to your website, and this is a key technique for a strategic marketing platform.

Search engine optimization drives traffic to a website by matching targeted keywords with searches performed by a search engine like Google or Yahoo. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the list of search results, or the higher it ranks, the more people will visit that site. If someone performs a search for "cosmetics" and your website comes up in the first position on the first page, more people will go to your site than the site in the first position on the second page, or even to the site that is the fifth position on the first page. Search engine optimization can also target different kinds of searches, including image search, local search, industry-specific, and vertical search engines.

As a marketing strategy for increasing a site's placement and relevance, search engine optimization considers how search algorithms work and what people search for. Search engine optimization may involve a site's coding, presentation and structure, as well as fixing problems that could prevent search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site.

Another class of techniques, know as black hat search engine optimization or spamdexing, use methods such as link farms and keyword stuffing that tend to harm the search engine user's experience. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques and may remove them from their indexes.

SEO History

Webmasters and content providers began optimizing sites for search engines in the mid-1990s, as the first search engines were cataloging the early web. Initially, all a webmaster needed to do was submit a page, or URL, to the various engines which would send a spider to "crawl" that page, extract links to other pages from it, and return information found on the page to be indexed. The process involves a search engine spider downloading a page and storing it on the search engine's own server, where a second program, known as an indexer, extracts various information about the page, such as the words it contains and where these are located, as well as any weight for specific words and all links the page contains, which are then placed into a scheduler for crawling at a later date.

SEO for Your Strategic Marketing Strategy

Having your website high in the rankings of a search engine is a strategic marketing way to increase your exposure. The higher you rank on a search engine, the more likely people are to visit your site.

The leading search engines, Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft, use crawlers to find pages for their algorithmic search results. Pages that are linked from other search engine indexed pages are found automatically and do not need to be submitted separately. Some search engines, notably Yahoo, operate a paid submission service that guarantee crawling for either a set fee or cost per click. These programs usually guarantee inclusion in the database, but do not guarantee specific ranking within the search results.

These are a few ideas on how to start thinking about applying search engine optimization to your business marketing plan. The first step to gaining new customers is by driving them to your site. Search engine optimization can be an important part of your successful strategic marketing plan by increasing the easy search-ability of your company's website and making your business more noticeable.

Technology Now Allows You to Edit Movies at Home

The usefulness of a camcorder is not only limited to the ability of the videographer but also on the type of equipment he chooses to use and maintain. Maintenance is a vital part of getting good video footage and caring for your stuff allows faults to be found preventing failure in the middle of your video taking work. Bateries like most equipment need proper care and monitoring for they do have a defined lifespan (mostly in the number of charge-duscharge cycles).
Today's batteries are some of the most sophistictaed ones ever in the video world, with some having active monitoring and using high tech nmaterials that offers longer charge times resulting in more video footage per battery pack. New batteries have to be conditioned (complete charge/discharge cycles, meaning using all the charge up till the device turns itself off then allowing it to fully charge again before reusing it for at least 3 times) This ensures the battery maximizes its potential with respect to the amount of charge it can hold which in time diminishes as the chemicals within breaks down (all batteries do this) till they cannot hold enough of a charge for a long time.

For a serious videographer, sveral battery packs are best for it allows you to lock and load in no time at all. Some even have back-up cameras and power packs on stand-by giving ample power for your video needs.

This form of filming technique is the act of starting a shot and panning left or right as you search for your next object of focus. It is not only dizzying but also prevents you from easily editing your recordings according to the scenes. Experts recommend at least 8 seconds of video on a subject that has ample material to be taken out as you compose your work into the final product. Footage you fail to focus on but deem to be vital later cannot be reshot as the magic of the moment is surely to have passed you. Planning also avoids this and a well planned shoot allows you to scope out good locations and vantage points to shoot from (just a note, other photographers would be scoping out for the same positions as you are) making your shoot planned and easy to edit when time comes.

The process is called so for it makes an old tape free and void of all previous video and audio that has been recorded onto it. It can be easily done with the lens cap on and in an isolated room. It can also be done before getting to bed so background noise is minimized and the tape becomes a true blank ready to take in another seeeion of video. Most CamCorders use a time search feature to search tracks faster, if a tape has old footage onto it, any gaps in the recording woudl result in a reset of the counter getting the scenes mixed up.

Experts use them to maintain the cleanliness of their recording heads allowing them to function at maximum effectivity each and every time. Some argue that this only wears the heads faster but it is better to have a worn out head than a dirty one that can fail you in an instant. As time develops, dirt and other debris accumulates onto your heads resulting in dirty footage with gaps and noise, cleaning can be done with approved cleaners form the equipment manufacturers, some even offer professional cleaning services to keep your video equipment in the best possible condition (its quite expensive and is more for professional videographers). Head cleaners are cheap and effective in beating normal dirt and grime on your heads but be sure to check the manuals for any notes on the subject.

Enhancing Programs With Ruby on Rails

New ideas are not easily accepted by everyone and creating a plan of introduction may help you start the process. Here are a few basic steps to introduce Rails:
Highlight the interesting points and advantages of using the Rails technology. Know your audience. Be aware of what they need and how Rails could meet them.

Explain how Rails differ from other technologies that are in competition with it. Discuss real applications made with Rails, its development and performance and the system requirements. Don't just talk about it, show a screencasts about it. Demonstrate how to use the Ruby technology, showing them how easy it is to use.

The choice of technology being used by customers is governed by what they consider as the standard. They don't risk using those programs not considered to be the regulars, and developers by giving in to them they are selling their customers short. Open source framework such as Ruby on Rails is very agile but people are not that keen to use them for they don't feel safe. However, vendors have found ways to introduce them and developers have learned how to use them. Constant use have led them to appreciate the RoR and are now convinced of its effectiveness and are enthusiastic with the accomplishments they have achieved.

Writing the best program would still be useless if people are clueless as to how it is managed. If you want to be successful in writing programs in Ruby, you should first learn how to run them. Two of the options available for running Ruby are: run commands as arguments that are passed to the ruby executable from a saved file, or from the Interactive Ruby shell; or, run Ruby programs as desktop and web applications. It is harder to make a decision regarding the method of sending the Ruby application to your users than the task of writing the Ruby program.

As with any other computer language, writing codes, mostly using IRB, is the best way to learn Ruby. If you have written a number of lines, place it in a file and run it. After you've figured out how it works, learn about the unit testing framework, try to discover the machinery that makes it work. Another way is to get involve in discussions and if you come across unanswered questions, do research, deliberate and come up with an answer. It would also be helpful if you let the program reveal itself to you, accept it as a simple program and could give you a straightforward solution to a problem.

From the users' perspective, the main difference between the Ruby programming language and that of the mainstream enterprise technologies is dynamic typing. This means that the need for clearly telling which type of an object it will reference is not needed as oppose to static typing wherein we tell the compiler that a certain variable will only be used to refer to objects of a specified type. On the other hand, in dynamic typing there is no compiler to tell us that we've made a mistake, like delivering the wrong type of object to a method, but we'll get a runtime exception when we perform that specific piece of code.
